Duty Officer Rotations
1st Lt. Martin Grillo:  February, April, June, August, October, December
2nd Lt. Sam Merel:  March, May, July, September, November
• Dispatchers are asked to contact the Duty Officer at the beginning of shift to confirm that the squad is in operation.

Vaccinations
FREE hepatitis and meningitis vaccinations are available for active squad members. Please contact Captain Mazlish at info@JEVAC.org if interested. There will be three stacked shots. The third shot will be in March 2006. If you cannot make those dates, other arrangements are possible.

Operations Reminders
  • Check out sheets for the ambulance and equipment are to be completed at the beginning of each shift.
  • Please empty the trash from the ambulance at the end of each shift.

Fund Drive
  • 15,000 envelopes were stuffed and labeled by the FEGS group at the Samuel Field Y for the Annual Building Fund Drive mailing. Approximately 12,000 letters were mailed in December 2005. So far, approximately $13,600 has been collected.

Grants
  • $33,680 US Government Assistance to Firefighters [and EMS] Grant to the squad was announced 8/19/05. Funds will be used for EMS equipment, PPE and Wellness and Fitness programs.
  • Application for $2,000 grant secured by NYS Assemblyman Mark Weprin has been completed ahead of schedule and sent in.
  • The Corps has received $5,000 in grant funds secured by NYS Senator Frank Padavan.

Ambulance Maintenance
JAM-6: Fully operational.
JAM-7: Still not operational yet.

In Memoriam
It is with great sadness to report the passing of Eileen Petrowski who died on 1/12/06. Eileen was a member of Queens Village VAC and Glen Oaks VAC. Eileen also worked for NYC EMS, first working in the Green Point area of Brooklyn and then transferred to EMS communications where she spent most of her 25 year career. She retired on a disability 3 years ago. Eileen was survived by her son and daughter. There was no wake but a funeral mass was held on Saturday 1/21/06 at American Martyr's Roman Catholic Church. Members from FDNY, Glen Oaks VAC, Queens Village VAC and Jamaica Estates VAC were in attendance.
