  • Check out sheets for the ambulance and equipment are to be completed at the beginning of each shift.
  • Please empty the trash from the ambulance at the end of each shift.

Fund Drive
Building Fund Collections so far:
December 2007 – 345 Responses, yielding $ 8,005.00 in donations
January 2008 – 176 Responses, yielding $ 5,299.00 in donations
February 2008 – 35 Responses, yielding $ 985.00 in donations
March 2008 – 11 Responses, yielding $ 503.00 in donations
April 2008 – 11 Responses, yielding $ 398.00 in donations
TOTAL TO DATE BUILDING FUND DONATIONS: $15,190.00.

Special Events Covered Last Month
  • Saturday April 12, 9:00am – Jamaica Estates Little League Parade – Started at the Cunningham parking lot on Union Turnpike and 196 Place and proceeded north on Francis Lewis Blvd to the 73rd Avenue Ballfields.
  • Saturday April 12, 10:30am – Queens Village Hollis Bellerose Little League Parade – Started at the Burger King on Hillside Avenue and 217 Street and proceeded East on Hillside Avenue to the Preller- Padavan fields at 238th Street.
  • Saturday April 19, 9:00am to 1:00pm – Greater New York Girl Scouts Council held annual Earth Day celebration in Kissena Park. We were asked to provide the medical standby by the Flushing Community VAC Chairman. We attended to a few minor injuries, and nobody needed transport to any medical facility. We used one ambulance and 3 roving attendants on bicycles. In attendance at the event were: Mourtaz Moutazaliev, Rocky Diaz, James Chin, Brandon King, Manav Nanda, Lieutenant Ed Pearce and Captain Daryl Mazlish.
  • Sunday, April 27, 8:30 am – Alley Pond Striders annual 5K run along Motor Parkway from Creedmoor Hospital to Hollis Hills Terrace. We staffed the Western end of the race from Motor Parkway to Hollis Hills Terrace. The following members were present: Lieutenant Ed Pearce, Lieutenant JP Vasquez, Chairman Warren Weiss, Jim Downey, Rocky Diaz, James Chin, Mourtaz Mourtazaliev, Manav Nanda and Captain Mazlish.

CPR Training
The new American Heart Protocols (“2005 Protocols”) are out. As per orders from the NY State Dept of Health, all riding members must be updated to the new protocols by July 1, 2007.
Sign up sheets for classes will be in the dispatch area. The classes are free to members and associates.
Included in the 2005 Protocols are changes to the following:
  • What constitutes an adult versus a child
  • Hand position
  • Changes to blind finger sweeps
  • Compression sequence changes (30:2 versus 15:2)
  • Infant CPR
  • Procedures for witnessed arrest and drowning victims
  • AED procedures
  • Recovery position

    PULSE CHECK 2008, the 53rd Annual Educational Conference & Trade Show of the NYS Volunteer Ambulance & Rescue Association will be held at the Hudson Valley Resort, Kerhonkson, Ulster County, NY. The event features seminars, exhibits, statewide EMT/CFR team skills drill and ambulance drill competitions, memorial service and awards dinner.
